Tune-ups/Problem Solving
I enjoy the challenge of creating a safe, obedient horse that will go where you point him, maintain your gait & speed, will not become fixated on other horses, and respond promptly when you give him a cue.
Keep in mind some horses move along much quicker then others. I usually don't ride a horse the first couple days. I like to teach then some ground work exercises first to help build trust and develop a bond that will help when riding. I work a lot on flexing to get them light to the halter then the bit. The second and third weeks are spent in the arena, working on speed control, direction and then I try to get out on the trail by the third or forth week. This again all depends on the progress of the horse.
Because of that, I would definitely recommend atleast 2 months for a solid foundation. By the third month I am usually loping in circles on a loose rein, bending, softening, & moving away from pressure consistently.
As soon as I have control of the horse I began working on these things plus added obstacles. My obstacles are; dragging hay bags, dragging logs, creek/bridge crossings, going in the pond, log crossing, opening gates, ride steep terrain, wildlife exposure, wooded trails, dog exposure, traffic/tractor/atv exposure, loping in open fields. I can even trailer them out at your request.
Colt Starting
When I start your colt, I treat each one as if he were my own. Every horse has their own personality, so I use a different approach for each individual. You can be sure that your horse will be given a solid foundation that will carry through in his training for years to come, no matter what discipline.
Getting Ready for our 4th Ride........
*CLINTON ANDERSON* I specialize in the natural horsemanship methods of Clinton Anderson & Down Under Horsemanship. I have been involved with Clinton's program for several years and have spent time at his training facility participating in several hands on clinics as well as auditing as many as I can.
Clinton has a saying "horses teach people then people teach horses- in that order".
*TOM CURTIN* I have also been involved with Tom Curtin. He has taught me to pay attention to the horse. He is a great teacher who shows softness and feel. He has a great understanding of the horse and where it is mentally. He opens your eyes to how the horse feels about himself when he is around you. Look for some of his clinics at our farm in the coming months.

Hope you are doing well. I am sending you two pictures of Chief and Dana taken this past summer. Sorry for taking so long to get them to you. I was hoping to get some more pictures this past fall with Dana riding, but I didn't get around to it. Chief is doing great! He is a sweet and inquisitive horse! We sure enjoy him!
